Naval Architecture

Design, construction and conversion of ships and floating structures.

Voe Marine Naval Architecture is a vital part of our offering supporting all our marine activity with design & technical knowledge. Clients working in marine and offshore sectors can access this key discipline as required. Our experienced Naval Architects ensure our designs are safe to implement and functional throughout the expected lifespan with an eye toward cost-effective service. Our solutions include:

Vessels
  • Design – For vessel newbuild or conversion

  • Expert advice – Flag & Class requirements

  • Structural design and verification – Using manual calculations, linear and non-linear finite element analysis tools to confirm a design meets safe but cost-effective utilisation factors

  • Vessel hull & fit-out
  • Vessel hydrodynamics – The ship resistance in the water, propulsion efficiency and motions in a seaway

  • Vessel hydrostatics – Intact and damage stability  (the ships floating characteristics in still water when intact and damaged).

  • Marine systems – Mechanical, Piping, Hydraulics, Electrical fit-out onboard the vessel or offshore installation

Cable Lay Vessel Engineering

  • Project – Cable Lay System
  • Location – Holland

  • Vessel – Maersk Connector

We were approached by Seaway 7 a Tier 1 offshore windfarm construction client to undertake a fast turnaround engineering design scope for the vessel Maersk Connector to create a new cable lay arrangement. This included:

  • Vessel 3D scan and traditional survey
  • Functional deck layout arrangement
  • Concept design & detailed design covering
    • Cable handling system
    • A-Frame adaptation for quadrant handling
    • Quadrant guide chutes
    • ROV LARS elevated deck
    • Tensioner & winch sea fastenings
  • Vessel structural verification
  • Fabrication & delivery
  • Class approvals

Project

Workboat incline

  • Project – Vessel daughter craft stability
  • Location – UK

  • Vessel – Edda Passat

Ostensjo Rederi a Norwegian vessel owner required support to revise a fast daughter craft vessel stability book due to a weight and COG change (center of gravity). Voe Marine were tasked to complete the incline experiment at Grimsby, UK.

The incline experiment included lifting the vessel with a crane & loadcell to get an accurate weight while witnessed by an MCA surveyor. The incline report was completed and issued to the designer in Norway for final stability calculation updates and submission to MCA. Services included:

  • Incline procedure
  • Attendance & supervision
  • Incline equipment
  • Incline report
